Motorola has unveiled the Motorola Signature 27, a £1,299.99 ($1,599.99) flagship smartphone equipped with a 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, a 12,000-nit tandem OLED screen, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. Announced on 5 November 2026, the device marks the brand’s first non-folding ultra-premium handset in the United States since 2020.
Key points
- The Motorola Signature 27 costs £1,299.99 in the UK and $1,599.99 in the US, equipped with 512GB of storage and 12GB of RAM.
- The handset features a 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, a 12,000-nit tandem OLED panel, and a dedicated Event-Based Vision Sensor for action photography.
- Motorola promises seven years of software updates for Android 17 alongside official compatibility with the privacy-focused GrapheneOS.
- Retail schedules conflict across reports, with differing timelines for US pre-orders and contradictory claims over European availability.
Hardware specifications and tandem OLED display
The Signature 27 runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. Motorola installed an ArcticMesh cooling system with a 40 percent larger thermal chamber and diamond-infused gel to manage heat from the chip.
On the front, the phone carries a 6.8-inch Extreme AMOLED Duo screen with a resolution of 2772×1272 and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel uses tandem OLED construction, stacking two light-emitting layers to produce up to 12,000 nits of peak brightness during high-dynamic-range playback.
Motorola said the dual-layer architecture is 34 percent more energy efficient than standard single-layer OLED panels and extends display lifespan by 121 percent. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, and the chassis carries both IP68 and IP69 water- and dust-resistance ratings.
Buyers can choose between two Pantone-branded colour options: Coal Smoke, which features a tactical-weave finish, and Capulet Olive, which has a textile-inspired texture.
Battery capacity and charging speeds
A 7,000mAh silicon-carbon cell powers the handset, representing a 35 percent capacity increase over Motorola’s previous flagship models. Silicon-carbon chemistry allows manufacturers to pack higher energy density into thinner hardware without expanding the phone’s dimensions.
Motorola estimates the battery can deliver up to 66 hours of operational life between charges. The capacity exceeds rival flagship offerings, such as the 5,000mAh battery in the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and the 5,567mAh pack in the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Charging is handled through 90W TurboPower wired charging, which the company claims provides 12 hours of use after 12 minutes on the plug. Wireless charging supports speeds up to 50W using Motorola’s proprietary charging stand, but drops to 15W on standard Qi pads, and the phone lacks built-in Qi2 magnetic rings.
Camera array and the EVS action sensor
The rear camera module houses three imaging sensors alongside a specialised motion detector. The primary 50-megapixel camera uses Sony’s LYTIA L910 sensor with LOFIC sensor technology, which expands dynamic range in high-contrast lighting.
A 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera provides 3x optical magnification and up to 100x hybrid digital zoom supported by generative algorithms. An ultrawide 50-megapixel lens with a 122-degree field of view and a 50-megapixel selfie camera complete the standard image setup.
Beside the lenses sits an Event-Based Vision Sensor, or EVS. The sensor monitors movement on a pixel-by-pixel basis to track high-speed subjects. Motorola combined the sensor with its Action Shot software mode to eliminate motion blur when photographing sports or moving animals.
Software longevity and GrapheneOS support
The phone ships with Android 17 and a commitment to seven years of operating system upgrades and security patches. That support window matches the update policies offered by Google and Samsung on their respective flagship devices.
Motorola also added official compatibility for GrapheneOS, an open-source, privacy-oriented Android distribution that operates without proprietary Google services. Support for GrapheneOS has historically remained confined to Google Pixel devices, making this the first mainstream US release to support the alternative firmware.
For users on standard Android, the software includes Google Gemini Intelligence features such as sign-to-text translation, automated app tasks, and the Rambler dictation tool. Audio output is routed through stereo speakers tuned by Bang & Olufsen, and the handset supports the Wi-Fi 8 standard.
Market position and conflicting release dates
At £1,299.99 in the UK and $1,599.99 in the US, the Signature 27 enters the highest tier of the smartphone market. Motorola has typically targeted sub-$1,000 price brackets with devices such as Motorola’s Edge+ specifications, reserving luxury pricing for foldable devices.
The company has cultivated premium partnerships across its product lines, incorporating finishes from Pantone and crystal designs from Swarovski on the Razr series. Industry trackers have recorded strong foldable market expansion in North America, where Motorola captured 78 percent of foldable sales in 2026.
Nicole Hagen, head of global product marketing at Motorola, said the company wanted to serve customers “seeking the highest-quality smartphone where no technical specification has been overlooked.”
Breaking into traditional premium slab sales remains difficult. International Data Corporation reported that Apple controlled 80 percent of the US premium smartphone segment in the second quarter of 2026, while Samsung held 16 percent and Motorola’s parent company, Lenovo, accounted for one percent.
Nabila Popal, senior research director at IDC, told Wired: “Regardless of how great this phone is, it’s going to be quite hard for Motorola to compete.”
Motorola introduced companion accessories alongside the flagship, including the Moto Watch Fit 27 and Moto Buds Ultra 27. Early US customers who pre-order through Motorola’s online store will receive a Moto Watch Ultra, which runs Wear OS, and a year of extended warranty coverage.
Release details for the phone vary across reports. In the United States, Wired and Android Authority reported that pre-orders open on 19 November 2026 with retail sales starting on 26 November, while 9to5Google reported that US pre-orders opened immediately on 5 November. International availability is also disputed: T3 reported UK pre-orders begin on 16 November, TechRadar reported European shipments start on that date, and Android Authority reported the phone would launch exclusively in the US.
