This policy explains what personal data FrontWord collects when you visit frontword.com, read our newsletter or contact us, why we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have. Who we are

FrontWord is published by Nuro AI Labs Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16079959), registered office 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. Nuro AI Labs Limited is the data controller for the personal data described here.

What we collect and why

When you visit the site

Every request to frontword.com passes through Cloudflare, our content delivery and security network, which processes technical information such as your IP address, browser, device type and the pages you request, so that it can deliver pages quickly and block attacks. Our own web server does not keep access logs of visitors. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in running a fast and secure website.

Advertising

FrontWord is free to read and is paid for by advertising served by Google AdSense.

Visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland are asked for consent, through a consent message from Google (a Google-certified consent management platform), before cookies are used for personalised advertising. If you don’t consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies or similar technologies only for purposes such as frequency capping, aggregated ad reporting and fighting fraud and abuse. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy and cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. Legal basis: your consent for personalised advertising; our legitimate interests for non-personalised advertising and ad fraud prevention.

See our Cookie Policy for the cookies involved.

Reading features

Features such as saved articles, reading history, followed topics and dark mode are stored only in your own browser (local storage). They are not sent to us, and you can clear them at any time in your browser settings.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to FrontWord Daily, we store your email address, and basic delivery and engagement data (such as whether an email was delivered or opened and which links were clicked), with our newsletter provider beehiiv so that we can send you the newsletter and improve it. Links in our emails may carry tracking parameters (UTM tags) that tell us which email a visit came from. We ask you to confirm your address before you are added (double opt-in). Every email has an unsubscribe link. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

When you contact us

If you email us, we use your name, email address and message to reply and to keep a record of the conversation, including corrections and takedown requests. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in responding to you and keeping accurate records.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers that process it for us or that you interact with through our site:

  • Cloudflare, Inc.: content delivery and security.
  • Google Cloud (London region): hosting of the website.
  • Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC: advertising (Google AdSense) and the consent message.
  • Beehiiv, Inc. (United States): sending FrontWord Daily to subscribers (beehiiv privacy policy).
  • Hostinger: our email inbox.

We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our readers or the public.

International transfers

Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by the UK’s adequacy regulations (including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep data

  • Advertising and consent cookies: for the periods set out in our Cookie Policy (up to 13 months).
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe, then removed from the active list.
  • Emails to us: up to three years, then deleted, unless we need them longer for a legal claim.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect anything done before you withdrew it). To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first so that we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk, telephone 0303 123 1113.

Children

FrontWord is a news service for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Automated decisions

We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced on the site.
